\u7d04\u7ff0\u798f\u97f3\u4e09\u7ae016\u7bc0\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u795e\u611b\u4e16\u4eba\uff08\u4e16\u754c\u6240\u6709\u7684\u4eba\uff09\uff0c\u751a\u81f3\u628a\u4ed6\u7684\u7368\u751f\u5b50\u8cdc\u7d66\u4ed6\u5011\u3002\u53eb\u4e00\u5207\u4fe1\u7942\u7684\u4eba\uff0c\u4e0d\u81f3\u6ec5\u4ea1\uff0c\u53cd\u5f97\u6c38\u751f\u3002\u300d\u9580\u5f92\u7a31\u70ba\u300c\u57fa\u7763\u5f92\u300d\u662f\u5f9e\u5b89\u63d0\u963f\u8d77\u9996\uff0c\u5b89\u63d0\u963f\u6559\u6703\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u591a\u5143\u7a2e\u65cf\u7684\u5dee\u50b3\u6559\u6703\uff0c\u88e1\u9762\u7684\u9818\u8896\u6709\u9ed1\u4eba\u3001\u975e\u6d32\u4eba\u3001\u5916\u90a6\u4eba\u3001\u7336\u592a\u4eba\u3001\u548c\u7f85\u99ac\u4eba\u3002\u5728\u9019\u500b\u6559\u6703\uff0c\u798f\u97f3\u662f\u8de8\u7a2e\u65cf\uff0c\u8de8\u6587\u5316\u5730\u50b3\u51fa\u53bb\u7684\u3002\u5982\u679c\u798f\u97f3\u53ea\u5728\u540c\u7a2e\u65cf\u88e1\u9762\u50b3\uff0c\u5c31\u6c38\u9060\u53ea\u6709\u7336\u592a\u4eba\u7684\u6559\u6703\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n

\u4eca\u5929\u4f60\u8ddf\u6211\u53ef\u4ee5\u6210\u70ba\u57fa\u7763\u5f92\uff0c\u5728\u57fa\u7763\u6559\u6703\u88e1\u9762\u6709\u5206\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u56e0\u70ba\u6709\u4eba\u9858\u610f\u8de8\u8d8a\u7a2e\u65cf\u7684\u754c\u9650\uff0c\u628a\u798f\u97f3\u50b3\u7d66\u8207\u81ea\u5df1\u4e0d\u540c\u7a2e\u65cf\u7684\u4eba\u3002\u6574\u500b\u5ba3\u6559\u7684\u904b\u52d5\u5c31\u662f\u4e00\u7a2e\u8de8\u7a2e\u65cf\uff0c\u8de8\u6587\u5316\u7684\u5ba3\u9053\u3002\u795e\u662f\u842c\u65cf\u842c\u90a6\u7684\u4e3b\u3002\u6709\u4e00\u5929\u5728\u57fa\u7763\u88e1\u6240\u6709\u7a2e\u65cf\u90fd\u8981\u540c\u6b78\u65bc\u4e00\uff08\u5f17\u4e0010\uff09\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n

Racism and Discr<\/u><\/strong>i<\/u><\/strong>mination for the Asian American Church<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Introduction: The following 3-part Bible study aims at helping Asian Americans to understand a biblical response to racism and discrimination in America. It has been adapted from the following two sources: Facing Racism<\/u> by PCUSA and Losing Face & Finding Grace<\/u> by Tom Lin,\u00a0<\/span>compiled and edited by Pastor Samuel Kwan and Pastor Jeremy Chu of Fort Bend Community Church in Houston, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n

BIBLE STUDY 1<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Growing up in America as an Asian American we are often unrightfully expected to conform. However, when we look back at American History, there are instances of hate, racism and discrimination towards Asian Americans. We hope to encourage the next generation of Asian Americans with a biblical understanding and perspective to take ownership and grow, and have a biblical response to racism, discrimination, and hate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Opening Question:<\/span><\/p>\n

    Biblical Imperative to Antiracism<\/span><\/p>\n

    Introduction<\/span><\/p>\n

    The Bible provides a firm foundation and compelling imperative to engage in antiracist work. There are at least five different biblical themes that can ground and motivate antiracism. While we will read some selected texts, it is important to recognize that these themes are not confined to isolated verses. Rather, they are woven throughout the biblical witness.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Creation<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Read: Genesis 1:1-31 see also Psalm 104<\/span><\/p>\n

    We are all part of God\u2019s intricate and amazing creation. We did not bring ourselves into being, rather we receive our existence as a gift from God. Our lives are interwoven with all of creation, including the stars, planets, oceans, animals, trees, and plants around us. We are all part of creation that God has made and declared good. God created all the cosmos in an intricate interwoven system of life. When humanity elevates one group over another or falsely declares particular groups less good than others, we usurp God\u2019s place as the creator of all that is. We deny our interrelation and proclaim our judgment more powerful than God\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Image of God<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Read: Genesis 1:26 \u201cThen God said, \u201cLet us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    Humanity is made in the image of God. While humans have many differences, we are all children of God, made in the image of God, and therefore of equal worth, value, and dignity. We are called to a vision of humanity without racism that is \u201cgrounded in our common origin as children of God from which we derive our inalienable worth, dignity, and sanctity.\u201d All humans are made in the image of God. It is therefore falsehood and deception to deny the full humanity of any group of people.<\/span><\/p>\n

      BIBLE STUDY 2<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      Growing up in America is a blessing that many in the world do not experience. There is a diversity to this country that is unmatched by any other.\u00a0 However, that diversity comes with challenges in racism and discrimination.\u00a0 God created all people to be equal but mankind has broken that equality. ALL people groups are at fault, not just one specific group of people. God created diversity and justice for His glory.<\/span><\/p>\n

      3. As you contrast these two experiences, share the benefits and challenges that they have presented to you as an Asian American.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        God loves diversity<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        Read: Acts 10:9-23<\/span><\/p>\n

        While focusing on the image of God emphasizes how all human persons are fundamentally the same, the differences between persons are also valuable. The Bible portrays God as delighting in the variety in creation (see Job 38-41). In the New Testament, the God of Jesus Christ offers grace to all people, regardless of their social group or status. Jesus spoke with and honored all those he encountered, including respectable Jewish men, women, tax collectors, prostitutes, lepers, Samaritans, and Canaanites. The book of Acts recounts the momentous decision to proclaim the gospel to the gentiles, who were at the time considered unclean by the Jewish followers of Jesus. Peter\u2019s initial hesitation to have anything to do with gentiles is overcome by a series of visions in which God tells him, \u201cWhat God has made clean, you must not call profane.\u201d Once convinced, Peter tells others, \u201cI truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation, anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him\u201d (Acts 10:34). People do not have to all be the same in order to be loved by God. There is room in God\u2019s grace for vast differences. And the grace of God does not erase differences but rather invites unity among them. When the Spirit came upon the people at Pentecost, each person present could hear the believers speaking in his or her native language (Acts 2:1-11). God did not provide a new language that erased all native tongues. Rather, God created understanding within the diversity of languages present.<\/span><\/p>\n

        God loves variety and diversity. The grace of God is not contained within particular human groups, nor does God\u2019s grace erase our differences. Racism falsely proclaims that difference is negative, rather than evidence of God\u2019s abundant creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n

        God loves justice<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        Read: Jeremiah 9:23-24<\/span><\/p>\n

        Another Biblical theme that compels us to anti-racism work is God\u2019s delight in justice. The prophets of the Hebrew Bible continually proclaim God\u2019s care for those who are 3 oppressed and God\u2019s demand for just action. Jeremiah says that God \u201cdelights\u201d in justice (Jer. 9:24). In Amos, the LORD calls for the people to \u201cestablish justice in the gate\u201d and \u201clet justice roll down like waters\u201d (Amos 5:15, 5:24). The prophet Micah states that what the LORD requires is \u201cto do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God\u201d (Micah 6:8). God delights in justice. Racism, as systemic inequality, is fundamentally unjust and therefore against the will of God.<\/span><\/p>\n

          BIBLE STUDY 3<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

          The church community has a mission. That mission is to bring others to full members of the Household of God from our former alienation.\u00a0 The church community is charged with breaking down the social barriers that humankind has erected. These barriers prevent membership and instead, reinforce alienation. This last section of Bible study will look at Paul\u2019s vision for what a church community should be in lieu of racism and discrimination and how we should address it today.<\/span><\/p>\n
